AIPS history began a century ago

AIPS (Association Internationale de la Presse Sportive) was founded on July 1, 1924 in Paris before the Opening Ceremony of the VIII Olympic Games. At its first Congress the first Executive Committee was elected. President: Frantz Reichel (France); Vice-Presidents: Victor Boin (Belgium) and Torsten Tegner (Sweden); Secretary General: Henri Pozzi (France); Deputy Secretary General: Andrej Sekura (Czechoslovakia). Since 1924, 85 Congresses have been held with the latest taking place in Seoul in May 2023.

AIPS history began a century ago

WORLD SPORTS JOURNALISTS DAY To mark the foundation of AIPS, July 2 each year has been designated World Sports Journalists Day. The peak professional body representing the sports media worldwide, with more than 9,500 members, is now set to celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2024.

HEADQUARTERS Headquartered in the Olympic capital, Lausanne, Switzerland, AIPS is recognised by the International Olympic Committee and the main Federations of each sport and country. AIPS is made up of 160 Member Associations and is comprised of four Continental Sections, each with its own history and leadership. Continental Sections include Asia, America, Europe and Africa.

INDEPENDENT AIPS is an independent organisation, financed through membership fees and the contributions of international bodies and Federations. A core objective of AIPS is to enhance the cooperation between its member associations in defending the values of sport and the professional interest of members, to strengthen the friendship, solidarity and common interests between sports journalists of all nations and to ensure the best possible working conditions for members.

YOUNG REPORTERS AIPS also prides itself on investing in culture, offering the next generations of sports journalists a unique opportunity to improve their knowledge and skills through the prestigious AIPS Young Reporters Programme organised in collaboration with top international sports federations and AIPS partners.

AIPS SPORT MEDIA AWARDS In 2018, AIPS launched the highest international accolade in the sport media industry, the AIPS Sport Media Awards. The Awards, currently in their sixth edition, are a celebration of sports media excellence, offering recognition to the very best sport storytellers across all media platforms.

AIPS CARD The AIPS card, which is the only official sports press card recognised across all borders, represents an important network of contacts, information and communications linking more than 10,000 journalists as well as leading international daily newspapers, periodicals and radio and television channels across the five continents.
